Meeting with Italian MEPs from XIX Legislature

Brussels, January 28, 2025 – At a crucial time for the future of Europe and Italy, the Italian Initiative Group (GII) promoted a high-profile meeting with Italian MEPs of the 19th Legislature at the Residence of the Italian Ambassador to Belgium and Honorary President of the GII, Federica Favi. The event provided a unique platform for dialogue and discussion between institutional representatives and the Italian business community active in Brussels to address issues related to Italy’s position in Europe, the main European and national priorities – both in general and sectoral terms – and the consolidation of synergies of the “Italian system” in Brussels.

The meeting opened with institutional greetings by H.E. Federica Favi, Amb Vincenzo Celeste and GII President Alberto Mazzola. Afterwards, Vice President of the European Commission Hon. Raffaele Fitto gave a keynote speech for the first time with the Italian business community in Brussels in his new role, focusing on the strategic priorities of the European Commission and his personal mandate for the coming months with the oversight of cohesion, agricultural, transport policy as well as the implementation of Next Generation EU, i.e. about two-thirds of the European budget .This was followed by the Vice President of the European Parliament, Hon. Antonella Sberna, and the Heads of Delegation of the main Italian political groups, including Hon. Carlo Fidanza (Fratelli d’Italia), Hon. Stefano Bonaccini (Partito Democratico), Hon. Pasquale Tridico (Movimento 5 Stelle), Hon. Massimiliano Salini (Forza Italia), Hon. Susanna Ceccardi (Lega) and Hon. Benedetta Scuderi (Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra), who shared their respective political groups’ priorities and vision for the future of Europe.
Presidents Attilio Fontana and Francesco Rocca also attended the meeting.
